OUGD601 - Dissertation - Research Question Development

It has been initially decided that the research question that the whole of the exploration will revolve around would be;

"How do the form, function and audience of fashion magazines effect the aesthetic styling?".

Due to the fact that this question firstly was based upon the default range of sample questions that we were initially provided to act as the catalysts of our exploration. Furthermore secondly that the question itself seemed somewhat limited in means of areas of research the decision was made to recreate the research question so that it would perform best through the dissertation, be most appropriate aimed at areas of which I am interested in and create most opportunities for research.
After some deliberation the decision was made that the final research question that the whole exploration would centre itself around would be;

"Determine how aesthetic decisions can be implemented through the design processes of fashion magazines to create theoretical and contextual links between content and delivery?"

This decision was made due to the fact that it opened up two major avenues that the exploration would take through the writing. The first of these avenues being the identification of how aesthetics can be implemented by the designers to help convey the content of the magazine. This identification will be culminated by discussing firstly the aesthetics that are used within glossy periodical fashion magazines. The next step will then discuss the overall nature and perceptions of the fashion industry. This will then synthesise these two stages by reasoning how and why said aesthetics are implemented and how these link to the fashion industry as a whole.

This newer question also allowed room for research in to how the aesthetics used within fashion periodicals link with the audience of the magazines and how these aesthetic decisions are based off accurately in inaccurately constructed presumptions of the audience of said magazines. Allowing for research in to the morality and ideologies of fashion that are evident within fashion editorial.
