OUGD601 - Dissertation - Initial Thoughts

To begin the whole process of dissertation from initial thoughts to final essay and practical, the first step is to decide the topic of which the whole exploration will centre on.
I made the decision that I want to focus my dissertation on the the fashion industry as it is a topic of which massively interests me. To further this the exploration within the fashion industry will specifically investigate the nature of the fashion editorial/magazine industry, this is because it is an area of the industry of which combines my personal enjoyment of fashion with my vocational interests of graphic design and personally fashion editorial is a area that I can see myself working within in the future and so this exploration will help prepare me for the future.

Throughout the last two years of my context of practice education my explorations have both centred themselves on the area of visual semiotics within graphic design and how design aesthetics can be implemented to intentionally convey meaning. Due to the fact that this is something that I enjoy and feel comfortable working within I have culminated my areas of interest by making the decision to specifically look at how aesthetics can be implemented by designers within fashion editorial to ask as a means of aiding the content.
This is a very crucial aspect of which is necessary to research as the aesthetics related to the magazines can vary massively depending on the content itself and the brand ideology of the publishers of the magazine.

Below is the first rendition of my perspective question to research;

"How do the form, function and and Audience affect the Aesthetic styling within Fashion Editorial?

Although this may not be the final rendition of my research question due to changes in interest it helps to outline the initial stage of written research that can be examined.
