To prove through the practical the discussion that is the man focus of the essay, to assess whether structuralism or poststructuralism pay an appropriate place in graphic design as an industry.
The hypothesis that I am assuming will evolve from the essay and therefore will be tested through the practical is that post-structuralism will play a more appropriate place in graphic design.
The primary research will take place in the practical section, through the means of a survey/test that will use the practical developments to test the conclusion of the essay, the secondary research will pertain to the books and journals researched in the essay part of the module. The aspects learnt from the written research will help inspire the practical side.
The synthesis between the practical and written sides of the module will come out of the fact that the essay will conclude with one of two different conclusions, whether structuralism and poststructuralism pay a more appropriate place in graphic design. The design side of the module will link the practical and written in a way that it will aim to test the conclusion drawn from the essay.
The developments within the practical aspects will be used to create a range of tests in which I will use as part of a survey/testing situation in which participants will be asked to choose between two different outcomes, one pertaining to structuralism and one pertaining to post structuralism.
As the essay part of the module is the biggest level of work within the project that will take up the majority of my time, two weeks will be allocated possibly for the designing stage and then a further week will be used to test the practical outcomes and gain a further developed conclusion from the essay and the practical.
